Feature Friday: Alison Rose

Feature Friday: Alison Rose

To celebrate this week’s announcement of the 2017 RBC Bluesfest lineup, we wanted to shine our Feature Friday spotlight on one of the many well deserving local artists that are playing the festival this year. Catch a glimpse of what you can expect by checking out tunes from indie pop local, the lovely Alison Rose: https://alisonrosemusic.bandcamp.com/releases

Released in May of last year, Alison’s debut full length “Come a Little Closer” pulls no punches. Brimming with clever lyrics, catchy hooks and Alison’s delightfully unique vocals, all 13 tracks on this album are worthy of ample praise. With her blending of pop (like the sweet “Honey in My Tea”), folk with the occasional dash of country (the all-too-true “Problems”), and addition of some dance-rock (the aptly titled track “Dance”), Alison proves that she can do it all flawlessly.

With such character in her voice, relatability in her lyrics, and sophistication in her songwriting, it’s impossible not to feel invested and connected to this album. The seventh track,”Going Insane” is the perfect example of Alison’s genuine, raw talent: armed with only her voice and an acoustic guitar, this track is stripped down yet beaming with such beauty in its brutal honesty. I absolutely cannot get enough of this:

Another great example of Alison’s vast musical abilities are brilliantly showcased in the charming back and forth number featuring Sebastien Pilon,”Come a Little Closer”:

I suggest giving the entire album a thorough listen. It is well worth every single minute. https://alisonrosemusic.bandcamp.com/releases
