Feature Friday: Merganzer

Feature Friday: Merganzer

Ottawa violinist Mika Posen delights us with her most current project: solo experimental  “Merganzer”. You may recognize her from her work with other Canadian acts such as Timber Timbre, Forest City Lovers, and Wooden Sky, just to name a few.

Her undeniable talent is immediately present the second you sink your teeth into the exquisitely crafted instrumental first track “Hygge”. Posen’s soft, honeyed vocals then guide you into the rest of these beautifully haunting tracks on the dreamy experimental pop album “Mirror Maze”.

Rich in lyrical imagery and ambient music, it is nothing short of mesmerizing and something that I absolutely recommend checking out for yourself. While melancholic at times, it only adds to the raw, honest beauty of this album.  “Mirror Maze” is ten tracks of elengantly constructed songs with incredible arrangements; there isn’t a single weak number in the bunch.

The title track, my personal favourite can be heard here:

You can (and should!) check out and purchase the entire album here: https://merganzer.bandcamp.com/

Merganzer will be performing an afternoon show at The Record Centre to support the release of “Mirror Maze” on vinyl, with solo instrumental project Chime of Wrens (https://soundcloud.com/user-880165637/sets/chime-of-wrensopening at 2pm. What an awesome way to start celebrating your Thanksgiving weekend!
