They aren’t actually from Tokyo just to let you know, this band is from Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. They do however make amazing Indie Rock music. (just for the record)
After playing around with music just for fun, the four Indie Rock individuals; David Monks -Vocalist and bassist, Graham Wright – keyboardist, Josh Hook – guitarist and Greg Alsop – drummer. The group was formed that would go on to become known at Tokyo Police club in 2005.
Tokyo Police club gained attention through their distinct alternative rock ,after they began to do small shows around Toronto, not long after they were asked to play at the “Pop Montreal Festival” this was an amazing opportunity. After this performance it was not long until they were signed to record label; Paper Bag Records.
In 2008 the band released their debut album “Elephant shell” this album was well received by critics and received a 9 out of 10 from NME and managed to debut at no 1 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers charts in the US and and in Canada was number 10 on the album charts.
The band has played many events and featured at many festivals most notably Coachella, Reading and Leeds festival. They have even worked alongside Weezer, in which Tokyo Police Club played in the last 6 weeks of their Troublemaker tour in 2008.
As of 2014 the band have released four studio albums, their most recently being “Forcefield” which was released March 25. This album received 4 out of 5 stars from Alternative Press and the song “Bambi” from this album peaked at number 5 on the Canadian Alternative Rock Chart.
