For Steve Cater, playing the guitar and singing was just another one of his ‘hobbies’ until he finally took his music – and what’s been called his “show-stopping” voice – out of the house for others to enjoy. Very soon, demand grew for the Kemptville, Ontario singer/songwriter’s deep resonant tones and acoustic solo act.
Playing an ever-expanding list of covers by country greats like Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, Chris Young, Garth Brooks, Randy Travis, Tim McGraw, Eric Church and many more, Steve continues to challenge himself with new material. Plus, writing his own songs and working with other artists have provided him even greater enjoyment and appreciation for his newest talent.
As for those other hobbies, he continues with his woodworking and photography. Steve’s ‘creative’ musical side came as somewhat of a surprise to those who know him. The same technical precision he applies to cabinet-making and digital photography he hones in his career designing industrial hydraulic systems.
“I guess I’ve surprised a few people, from friends who tell me they can’t believe it’s me up there on stage to strangers asking how I suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Then again, even I never dreamed I’d be performing and sharing my music like this. I’m excited about the new projects I have underway with some fellow artists, and I truly feel at home on the stage.”
