We Were Sharks: (Ottawa pop punk, Victory Records)
The We Were Sharks story is one of tenacity and passion, being told with catchy vocal hooks and crunchy guitar riffs. Since 2011 these Canadians have been dedicating their lives to pumping out tunes and tearing apart highways. With a recently solidified six-man lineup We Were Sharks are poised to pop.
PINE: (Ottawa indie, No Sleep Records)
PINE began as a vehicle for expressive, personal story-telling and emotionality, and though the textures they play with continue to evolve in vibrant and adventurous ways, that emotive heart still pulses with the same blood. Love, loss, and heartache ranging from the mundane to the existential, figure in music that grows from the fertile soil of shoegaze, post-rock, post-punk and more. The artistic chemistry between them is palpable in their most recent recordings (a forthcoming EP) and is a truly visceral force in their live show.
Kennedy: (Montreal hardcore)
Kennedy formed from the remains of multiple prominent Montreal bands in early 2012. After releasing a self-titled EP in the spring, Kennedy began touring through southern Ontario. They quickly convinced audiences that this fresh collective of musical veterans was something special, albeit wild and confusing. The fall came and with it a lengthy cross-Canadian tour, surviving the flipping of their trailer and crashing into military firing ranges the band remained focused and determined. Their music is dense, their skin is thick and driven to keep moving forward.
Elementals: (Ottawa rock)
Elementals are sons of the small town of Almonte & North Dundas, Ontario.
Born in flannel with a smoker’s cough.
They are a gang.
A family with a drinking problem,
and a tendency to create honest music.
