Horizon Quintet is drawn to groove-based jazz and brings tons of energy to the bandstand with their own take on under appreciated gems from the 60s and 70s, as well as more experimental compositions by artists like Medeski, Martin & Wood. Mario Gauvreau (trumpet), John Yemensky (guitar), Karen Rauh (keys), Alex Emard (bass), and Allyson Rogers (drums) have all collaborated in other ensembles, but came together in the fall of 2014 to explore a repertoire of tunes by artists such as Rusty Bryant, Grant Green, Freddie Hubbard, and Houston Person. The energy of this group and the captivating repertoire has garnered rave reviews from local audiences at the Merrickville Jazz Fest, the Buckingham Buzz Jazz Festival, the Blacksheep Inn, The Rainbow, Pressed Café, and Café Nostalgica. With edgy vintage organ, bluesy guitar, cool trumpet, and a dynamic rhythm section, Horizon Quintet delivers an exciting, energetic live show – don’t miss it!
